Sergéy

Sergéy is the new recording identity of Belarusian singer-songwriter Sergey Ulyanov. After political pressure in Belarus, displacement through Ukraine and a new beginning in Los Angeles, he returned to music with a more direct and personal voice.

For years, being openly gay was not safe for him as a public artist: he was expected to perform heterosexual roles in videos and onstage in order to keep speaking through pop music. In Los Angeles, Sergéy begins again without separating the queer man from the artist—and turns that hard-won freedom into songs.

Previously known as ULYANOOW, he was named a Belarusian iTunes discovery of 2014, played 55 concerts across 30 cities in six countries, released 14 radio singles and five music videos, and received a national creative-industry recognition in 2016. Ray brings that history forward without losing sight of the person behind it.
